Pin Glossary: Special Features

This section describes different details and mechanical elements that can be added to enamel pins and features pins with these specific details. You can click on each picture to visit the pin creator.


3D PVC

Soft PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is added to create dimension and feels soft and rubbery to the touch.

Dangle

Pieces are connected with chain links to hang from the pin.

Flocked / Fur

Small fibers are adhered to the pin to create a fuzzy texture.

Gemstones

Gemstones are added to the surface of the pin creating a dimensions element.

Glitter

Glitter can be added to soft enamel. Glitter sections can be filled with clear epoxy to protect the glitter and give the pin a smooth hard enamel surface.

Glow-in-the-Dark

Glow powder is added to enamel to make it glow in the dark.

Hinge

Pieces are connected by a hinge to open and close the pin.

Lenticular

A lenticular lens creates the illusion of an image changing or moving.

Peekaboo Mold

Transparent colored enamel is layered over a 3D molded design in the metal.

Pin on Pin

A pin is layered over another pin to give the pin dimension.

Screen Printing

Small detailed are added over the enamel with paint.

Slider

A pin with a mechanism that allows part of the pin to slide.

Spinner

A pin with a mechanism that allows it to spin. It usually has two pin layers attached by the spinning mechanism, but may have more layers.

Stained Glass

Holes in the metal pin base are filled with transparent colored enamel. This allows light to pass through the enamel and looks like stained glass.

Textured Metal

The metal is textured to create shading and depth.

Thermochromic

Thermochromic enamel changes color or becomes transparent when heated.
